THE 411

Born Christopher Stack, Jr. in Chicago, IL, to parents Chris and Ann, Stack was raised in Indianapolis, where his acting career started with nativity plays and a sixth-grade production of H.M.S. Pinafore. He admits he got into acting more for the social aspect, but when he played John Proctor his senior year in The Crucible, he started taking it more seriously. Since receiving his MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School, Stack says he's worked in film and TV with "varying degrees of success and consistency."

"I never tended bar. I've bused tables, I've worked for an asbestos-removal contractor and I dabbled in catering," he shares. Ironically, when he played OLTL's Brad White in 2003, he worked with Nathaniel Marston (ex-Michael/ex-Al), who he would go on to replace four years later. Stack recalls that the day he screen-tested for the role was when he realized he was reading for Marston's role. "I was nervous, but I was really comfortable. And then I bolted out and went out with my mom, who was in town by chance, to see Rock 'n' Roll, the Tom Stoppard play. So, I could just go and think about something else."

The actor jokes that once he did win the role, it was a new feeling to find himself still working after his first air date. "I had a recurring role on THE EDUCATION OF MAX BICKFORD in late 2001. It was great, but it was canceled. There's nothing like being unemployed and watching yourself on television," he laments.

Now, Stack is thrilled to be played Dr. Michael McBain, although he wishes Michael didn't appear to be the only doctor in Llanview. "He needs some medical compadres," laughs Stack. "I mean, God forbid, there's some kind of epidemic and it's just Michael and the nurses!" Dr. Larry? Paging Dr. Larry....

ET CETERA

—Stack co-founded a New York theater company called The CRY HAVOC Company in 1997.
—When he's not acting, Stack can be found playing drums with his group, Sensi-tip and the Suggestions. "Our bass player never practices in between rehearsals when we get together, so his fingers get really sore and he's sitting over there blowing on them," explains Stack of the strange name.
—Stack appeared as a drummer in the first band of Jack Black's character in School of Rock. "You won't recognize me unless I put on a full-length, camo, skin-tight bodysuit," he jokes. "And I definitely had ... makeup on."
—Just like the McBain brothers, Stack is of Irish descent. "There was a town in County Kerry called Lispole where all the Stacks are from and there's actually a Mount Stack," he declares.
