Australian native Daniel Goddard created the role of Ethan "Cane" Ashby, Jill's biological son who Katherine gave away as an infant, on YOUNG AND RESTLESS. Goddard was a year shy of completing a degree in finance when he decided to switch gears and go for a career in acting. To hone his performance chops, Goddard studied at the Ensemble Actors Studio in Sydney. He kicked off his career by appearing in local theatrical productions. After landing his first major role on the Australian soap HOME AND AWAY, where he worked closely with Wedding Crashers star Isla Fisher, Goddard became one of Europe's biggest heartthrobs.

Goddard left Australia in 1996 to travel. While passing through Los Angeles, he won the lead role in the internationally syndicated series BEASTMASTER. Goddard had to return to home to Australia to shoot the show, but later went back to the US to begin appearing in small TV and film roles before joining the Y&R cast in January of 2007.
